Each year the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD is given to a recipient in recognition of their lifetime of inspired patient care as a medical dermatologist, mentoring of future medical dermatologists, and research to advance medical dermatology.

DEDEE F. MURRELL, MA, BMBCh, FAAD, FRCP, MD, FACD, DSc
Professor and Chair, Department of Dermatology
St George Hospital, UNSW, Sydney, Australia
Dr. Murrell is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology, St George Hospital, UNSW, Sydney, Australia, and board certified in the USA, UK and Australia. She holds doctorates from UNSW Australia and Oxford University. Her career has been focused on blistering diseases, both autoimmune and genetic, following her education at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, three years of internal medicine, dermatology residency and research on EBA at UNC-Chapel Hill, research fellowships in dermatopharmacology at Duke University, cell biology at New York University and epidermolysis bullosa at Rockefeller.
She has published over 400 scientific articles (H index 61) and six textbooks, including as co-editor of ‘Treatment of Skin Diseases’ and ‘Blistering Diseases’. She established Australia’s first dedicated dermatology clinical trials centre, multidisciplinary clinic for EB and international medical dermatology fellowship.
Together with Dr. Victoria Werth, she cofounded the International Blistering Diseases Consensus Group and pioneered the development and validation of the scores used in pemphigus (PDAI) and pemphigoid (BPDAI). She developed and validated instruments for EB (QOLEB and EBDASI) and AIBD (ABQOL/TABQOL).
Dr. Murrell has received numerous Honors, including the Gerald Levene Lectureship (BAD), Maria Duran Medal (ISD), Hurwitz Lectureship (SPD), International Pioneer Award (WDS), the plenary lectureship of the JDP in Paris and the Joseph Plenk Lectureship (OEDV).
She is an honorary international member of the American Dermatologic Association.
